Party Time  - May 2002
A publication of the Milford Republican Committee

Welcome to Party Time, the newsletter of the Milford Republican Party! In this election year we want more than ever to keep you informed on what’s happening, not only locally, but on the state and federal level as well. We expect this to be an exciting and vitally important year for Milford, the state and our country. We hope you’ll join us in the journey.

Republicans Love A Great Party

Wanting involvement in the party to be more than attending dull business meetings, the leadership team adopted “Republicans Love A Great Party” as their theme for the year, stressing the need for the committee’s activities to be fun, fresh, and family oriented. The Programs subcommittee is already busy at work discussing and planning events for the year. If you would like to get involved in planning and carrying out these activities, please call Jack Sweeney at 672-6859 or Loreen Daniels at 673-3065.

Let’s Grow the Republican Party

A project is currently under way to distribute ornamental kale seeds to those who will volunteer to grow the kale over the summer. In the fall the plants will be collected and sold, the proceeds going to the Milford Republican Committee. If you would like to be involved in this activity, please call Cindy Herman at 673-0750.

Legislative Update

The town budget process starts in June. Now is the time to start gathering your facts and figures to “assist” selectmen in developing next year’s town budget.

Starting in May, the Fife and Drum Corp will be rehearsing every Sunday night, in uniform, on the Oval. Donations will be accepted, the proceeds going to the VFW to defray the cost of the Labor Day parade.

The School Board will be discussing the relocation of the Sage School in June. The Board has already voted not to renew the Sage School lease at its current location. Alternate locations will be discussed at the Board’s June 3rd meeting, with a final decision made at the June 17th meeting.

Governor Shaheen’s veto of the redistricting plans for the House and Senate, puts Milford’s entitlement to 4+ representatives in jeopardy (four representing Milford alone and one shared with Wilton and Temple.) If no alternate plans are passed, the court will determine the redistricting, and, depending on the their final decision, Milford may not get the representation to which it is entitled.

Governor Shaheen also vetoed a bill aimed at requiring positive voter identification, leaving the door open to continued voter ID fraud.
